I don't think that is the issue. I am able to open up other writers posts and like and comment, after experiencing the glitch. There is a randomness about it that isn't obvious.
Not sure how. I would think I should be able to subscribe to as many as I like, without such a glitch, though of course the more I subscribe to the less likely I am going to see everything posted. That total though is a bit like Dunbar's number.
I have noticed similar oddnesses recently, though I haven't monitored the whats, hows, and whens as closely as you have. Recent societal developments (lol ... sort of) have made me paranoid enough that "random glitch" is no longer even on my list of usual suspects; I go straight to assuming something more or less nefarious. :) Please keep us posted if/when you get to the bottom of this. Thanks for your work here ~
I default to technical glitch, as there is enough in the world currently to facilitate paranoia. Though I've no doubt there are some nefarious actors trying to figure out how to control Substack like they do social media, I have much gratitude that the platform has lived up to it's early promise.
I have noticed the same, although I subscribe to a much smaller amount of substacks. Like you, I thought it was just some glitch in the app, but in my bones I don't feel that is the case. I believe the substack community has been 'targeted' by those of the fact checkers, censor-police, etc. Call me conspiracy theorist, whatever. I don't have a feel good feeling about this.
When I am on a site that says I am not a subscriber when I am, the page says log in at the top. But then when I close it and then move to another site, no problem.

Having found a deceased moth, I finally got around to answering a question I've had since childhood.
Why are moths covered in powder?
Why Are Moths Dusty?
Google answer:
Moths are powdery because they are covered in scales. The scales provide camouflage, defense, and an insulating layer. Butterflies have scales like this as well, which are used for thermal regulation. However, moths tend to have thicker scale layers than butterflies as they are usually nocturnal insects.
Why too it is never good for the moth or butterfly to touch them, as the oils on the hand will compromise the reason for those scales and harm or kill the creature.
Actually, this did just happen to me this morning. But it was on a paid-subscriber post with a free preview. I clicked on the link, and it took me to the tier subscription page and wouldn't let me bypass that to get to the free preview. That's definitely a bug.
I always experience login glitches with Substack. It's probably because I have three different accounts, but you'd think that different email addresses would be how the platform recognizes different accounts, since you can't have more than one email address per account (as far as I know). Yes, I do log out each time I want to post on a different account, but the platform still won't recognize my unique email addresses and passwords!
Personally, I think the platform should allow for multiple accounts under the same name and email address, since I'm certainly not the only writer posting content about a lot of different topics!
By the way, I found your glitch notification post in my junk mail folder! This has never happened with ANY Substack notifications!
Considering the powers against us, it is amazing this platform works as well as it does. I imagine the substack admin spends a lot of time and money fighting attacks.
I have learned to live with this annoyance. I do not have the app on my phone and read on email posts or choose the "online" prompt. I believe some of the issue is how the writers set up the posts and some is substack nudging for app downloads.... but, what do I know 🤷♀️💚
Have you confirmed that this isn't due to being logged out?

How many writers are you subscribed to?
158 precisely
Well! That may be a factor.

Take her up to 666, if you can spare the time ;)

I imagine the closer we get to the next election, the more "glitches" we are likely to see.
Oh, I'm sure. 🙄
I feel ya here, Alice.
It's been glitchy lately. You have to login over and over again even when navigating within the platform.

The admin of this platform is a bit opaque to me.

I still have not heard from substack about it. They often take at least 48hrs to respond. Hopefully we get some clarity soon.
I’ve seen some odd Substack glitches but not this one.
Best of luck dealing with what, I hope, is "merely" a technical glitch. A bug.

Is the Intel-net A.I. going rogue?!?!?!

I would like to think that is the truth, my friend.
Let us continue fighting dragons as we enjoy the autumn harvest to maintain strength and endurance.💖🗡💝

I've noticed this a lot on Substack. Appears to be a login token issue. Sure wish they'd sort it out.
I have had that happen quite a few times, mostly in the past few months. It is very annoying.
