This is my 100th post, one year after starting this Substack July 4th 2022. I have 446 subscribers (a recent increase thanks to a man I admire, Joel Smalley at Dead Man Talking
- welcome new subscribers!) which is 446 people more people than have read my writing on the regular the last several years, so a great thanks to the Substack platform too.
I went back and read the introduction, the lay of the land.
I see a growing trend toward Authoritarianism by people who claim to be defending and protecting Democracy, and it is time again to raise my voice in defiance, to speak where I stand, to help my fellow Americans make sense. I intend here to write about Anarchism, magic and building a homestead. I am something like a master builder, gardener and writer, intending to use everything I have learned the last 49 years, to build something truly beautiful. I hope you will support me in that. Thank you for reading,
I haven’t written much at all about anarchism. I started reading the original anarchists again - Kropotkin, Proudhon, Bakunin - but a lot of it is unreadable. It rings like the politics of grievance, much of it assuming to “improve” humanity, collectivist in spirit and otherwise leftist. It is challenging to talk about anarchism without being associated with Antifa, which is more Marxist than anarchist and all destructive, not interested at all in building anything, but purely interested in destroying western civilization and America. Perhaps I will peruse some more modern takes on anarchy, though I have not much intention now to discuss anarchism going forward, though I will say again, anarchism is the self organizing way of nature; the far distant structure of human society will be more reflective of natural rhythms/anarchy than the centralized mega-structures of today’s nation state.
I have not said a lot about magic. I did some tarot readings early on, I have alluded to the power of imagination, will and intention, but otherwise I have avoided the topic in part because it is, like anarchism, so misunderstood, so very “triggering”. There is an old precept in magical study, to know, to will, to risk and to be silent. America is still very much a Christian nation insofar as many people have conscious and unconscious notions of good and evil as a pure duality, what is not of God is of the Devil full stop. I was once hanging out with one of the on-again, off-again members of Bone, Thugs N Harmony,
who is not exactly a paragon of Christian virtue, when I mentioned the goddess by way of alluding to the male/female polarity in nature, when he had a freakout meltdown like the devil himself had just entered the room. One tends to be wary about discussing alternative spirituality, when even a self described thug would support burning you at the stake. But I will probably write more about magic as this substack matures, if my readers are interested. (Suffice to say, I am much on the side of true Christians, against the rainbow blight.)
As for homesteading, I built a big garden and an orchard. It is not a traditional homestead, but I said I was going to build that and I did. This I will be discussing at length, the progress of the garden and orchard, traditional skills that might prove useful now and in the future, and how all of this might evolve into a business. I have a mind to start a cannabis/fruit wine/plant starts/fruit tree/native and garden plant seed business.
Mostly this substack has been engaged in a creative calling out of what I see as a metastasizing authoritarianism in America. America is turning into a kind of open air prison, an all surveilling panopticon where your very life can be turned on or off by the AI and the people who control it, for not doing what you are told. That is the future the DC elite on both “sides” embrace. The only thing antifa/woke/trans does not want to smash is that ability to control society. That is the machine I would like to smash, metaphorically, with prejudice. No one can be trusted with such power. The powerful who control the machine will never use it for anything but to assure no one can take away their power (which will inevitably mean they will lose their power.) That is why they want a domestic war on of terror, to disappear anyone who is a threat to their power. Trump is by far not the first precedent for that.
I’ve gone and buried the lead. Why is patriot like a dirty word in America? Many of those who act like patriot is a pejorative have no problem degrading themselves with the appellation “consumer.” You likely hear the word consumer 10,000 times a year, now tell me the last time you heard the word citizen? If the elite called us idiots 10,000 times a year we would probably come to believe it. They do, ten thousand different ways.
On the left, among democrats, patriotism is less popular than being minor-attracted a pederast; patriotism is associated by the left with racism, bigotry, misogyny, white supremacy and domestic terrorism. Why is that? Because they are globalists, they think one world government is the future, they want a global technocratic state to make everybody like everybody else them, they have come to hate America and Western Civilization and our Constitution, because they want to be able to make the rules up as the go without limits of any kind? Are they so very certain of their evolutionary superiority, they think they can dump the constitution and the law and it will be, to use a word popular with Trump, perfect?
Meanwhile, those who embrace patriotism are often antiquated, all about God, Guns and Gas, as if all we need to do to make the world perfect is restore Reagan’s Morning in America, AKA Make America Great Again. I don’t have any problem with God, Guns or Gas necessarily, I just don’t make idols of them, or think of them as a holy trinity. God does not exist to justify our unchecked acquisitiveness; the amount of weaponry in this country could turn America into a bastion for warlords as well as it could save us from centralized tyranny, and we aren’t drilling three miles deep in the ocean because oil is abundant - drill baby drill all you like, in ten years you’ll finally realize, oil is a nonrenewable, limited resource.
Why am I an American Patriot? Because no where else in the world are my rights, such as free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, so clearly delinated, so explicitly numerated as in our Constitution. America is an experiment in Americans making their own life according to their own desire, interests and ability, free from coercion and forced expectations. That is why I have come to despise the social justice/woke/trans movement - SJWT ideology is forced and coerced. It’s the Constitution that protects the right to be an idiot who thinks we should dump the Constitution. Guess what, it ain’t God standing between SJWT and all those patriots with all those guns. If SJWT wanted to make America better by asserting their right to exist, while asserting mine, that is American. If you want to shit on America and destroy the Constitution, and call me a racisttransphobebigotmisogynistwhitesupremacist, well it’s a free country, you can call me that if you want, but destroy America and the Constitution and SJWT ain't ever going to call me or anyone else names like that again, guaranteed. There aren’t any liberals or progressives in A Song of Ice and Fire, if I didn’t say it clearly enough in the previous sentence. It will be that before its an SJWT DNC WEF digital currency Transmerica.
Here’s to many more years of America. America is still a young Nation.

I’m finishing this post in a campground at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I enter tomorrow morning.
Earlier I went to a prominent local camping store to buy some new gear. A middle age Trans was teaching a young couple about the difference between canoe paddles. “She” had a strong, confident male voice. I learned a lot about canoe paddles listening to him. I asked him after the couple left if the 52inch was right for me. We talked about the $350 paddle, but he said he wouldn't want to take a Cadillac into the wilderness, selling me on the heavier more durable but very beautiful Bending Branches paddle for half the price. I was good, kind, friendly and civil to him. I’m pretty sure he was checking me out, following me to the back of the store while I looked at other gear.
(The canoe and paddle are my 50th birthday present to myself)
I think it is good and healthy for America for Americans to be good, kind, friendly and civil to each other. But I will not call a man a woman, or a woman a man, like I will not call Trans drugs and surgery for kids medical care, like I won't call the covid jabs safe and effective, like I won't call the war in Ukraine about saving Democracy, like I won’t call censorship “protecting Democracy”, like I won't call 2 + 2 = 5.
That said, this patriot lover of America is paddling a canoe into the wilderness for a week with my dog, to fish and read and write and sing and dance for my 50th Birthday.
Happy Birthday me, Happy 247th Birthday America, Happy first birthday this substack, happy Independence Day, my readers, where ever you are from.
Great birthday gift! 🛶
Happy birthday, Hunter! See you in two weeks! I have a feeling that we will all have some great stories to share around the campfire, or wherever we end up!
