Culture War and Cancel Culture
A rambling essay about winning the war for the soul of America while taking care of your soul.
[my previous post was very well received, 15 restacks, twice as many readers compared to my last few months of posts, and a bevy of new subscribers, now closing in on 1000 subs, so thank you and welcome new subs. That post is now my third most popular.]
I wrote about a new civil war late last year and early this year, in my Rules for Revolution. Basically I said, be careful what you wish for, and if there is going to be a revolution/civil war, there are (at least) three fundamental rules, and here are some fundamental realities such a civil war would entail you should be aware of.
I am inclined to think we missed the start of civil war by one turn of an orange head. But then it seems like not a few on the left still want it. (I linked this tweet and video before Biden conceded, but it stands as an example of how Obama and Clinton elite feel about flyover America, exactly the sentiment that would continue too reign whether it is Kamala, Hillary, or any other elite Democrat. BTW, I’m not sure Biden knew he conceded. It is possible they released the letter without telling him, and the text of support for Kamala. WTF concedes the presidential nomination with a letter? They put him down like a dog1.)
I’m not sure how Popehat can get away with talking like that, when you can’t seriously question vaccines on X or YouTube etc social media. Seems to me like a terroristic threat, threatening violence against the government, soft conservative targets and private people. But then I guess the only real terrorists in America according to Biden, FBI and DHS are rural Americans.
TERRORISM
In 2024, we expect the threat of violence from violent extremists radicalized in the United States will remain high but largely unchanged from the threat as described in the May 2023 National Threat Advisory System (NTAS) bulletin. Over the past year, both domestic violent extremists (DVEs) and homegrown violent extremists (HVEs) inspired by foreign terrorist organizations have engaged in violence in reaction to sociopolitical events. These actors will continue to be inspired and motivated by a mix of conspiracy theories; personalized grievances; and enduring racial, ethnic, religious, and anti-government ideologies, often shared online.
Introduction
Traditional law enforcement techniques historically have focused on the apprehension and prosecution of violent offenders after violent crimes are committed. When police are given information that someone may potentially commit a crime or become violent in the future, their responsibilities, authorities, and available investigative tools are suddenly less clear. This guide is about threat assessment and management, or stated another way, how law enforcement officers and others may identify, assess, and manage the risk of future, planned violence. This task is a complex and nuanced one. Published research about intended violence and its perpetrators, along with knowledge and experience derived from previous cases, are applied to the facts and circumstances of each case. In other words, there is a lot to think about
A lot to think about indeed. This FBI would have us believe too, the only time the Trump assassin ever commented anywhere online his entire life was to announce that July 13 would be his big day. Because they think we are that stupid.
I’m not sure exactly why Obama and Clinton people, the media and FBI never say anything nice about rural Americans, but then I suppose it has something to do with the fact that rural Americans are the majority of the most patriotic people in America, the people who most love America, who most venerate the Constitution. Funny, not funny, that. You want to fight wars against Russia, China and Iran, and talk shit about rural America? Russia, China and Iran are not such a threat as that. Yeah, try your draft, see what happens. You are on notice too, Republican Party. You want to enlist rural Americans, how about for border control and deporting the new lefty 10 million migrant army of military aged brown males from 180 countries? Popehat ain’t gonna like it, but see how much I care about that.
Before I wrote my Rules for Revolution, I wrote a post laying out the cause for one, and how there can not be a draft. My second most popular post.
The thing is, I live in rural America, and I have yet to hear anyone talking about the assassination. Everybody I encounter acts like nothing has changed, these rural Minnesotans seem hardly moved, so I assume that is a fact throughout the rural Midwest at least. Which is kind of unbelievable to me, not just because our elite talk like all we talk about out here is Trump and how we want to turn America into some sort of authoritarian State, but really, all I want to talk about right now is Trump, the assassination attempt and how perilous things are, and nobody I know around here has even brought it up to me. Obviously my reach is not very far, but rural mid-westerners are not that different region to region. If they are talking about it they are only doing so with their closest friends and family.
Not that I really want to be talking about war, civil war and assassination attempts. I would rather talk about gardening, spirituality, restoring an America of opportunity, merit, the good, beautiful and true. I will always believe in the idea of America as the one place any Citizen can chose their destiny, no matter what happens to America.
I don’t know if JD Vance is the inheritor of MAGA, but he gave a good speech the other night at the Republican National Convention. He even mentioned the word craftsmanship, rarely heard from any politician in generations. Much of the new right talks about elite excellence, setting a model for the rest of the culture, returning merit, virtue and the search for truth to the narrative. Speaking of craftsmanship, I have not been as productive of late, here on Substack, because I have been building things like this:
I hope JD walks his talk, Trump too. Talk is mere talk, actions matter.
I did mention to my father, I feel more optimistic than I have in a long time. The pendulum is swinging back, the left has had a lot of setbacks of late, in the courts, Biden’s obvious cognitive collapse and democrat election prospects now that the momentum is all on the side of Republicans. Now that Kamala is their standard bearer, kek.
Speaking of right action,
and have set different sides of that table2 . The right is right to talk about virtue, nobility, righteousness and truth, because the left only talks in the negative: you are oppressed, you are an oppressor; you are wounded, you are traumatized, you are a victim, you are toxic: they want to take, they do not care to create; they want to destroy, they do not know how to build. Only losers whine about what victims they are, real people know that difficulties and challenges make you stronger. Cancel culture is the province of losers, discovering that raw fear and mob intimidation can be used to dispense with due process and go straight to judgment, for years attacking anyone with virtue, ethics and a belief in merit and excellence, just lately the right talking about turning the tactics of the left against the left. Probably you have heard of the Home Depot lady who was fired for her monstrous take on the Trump Assassination attempt? Take the initiative as the pendulum swings back, take control of the pendulum and beat thy enemies with it?“Cancel the cancellers?”
The thing about focusing so much on evil, or taking on the tactics of evil is, one can become possessed by it. That does not mean you become evil necessarily, it is that you come to see evil everywhere, even where there is good, a purity spiral that comes to isolate you, to blind you.
I recently had a run in with Mathew Crawford at Rounding the Earth Substack. I admire Mathew a great deal for his intelligence and his courage. When I first found him on substack I felt like I had found a kindred spirit. His work was a solid foundation during the covid psyop, which I remain deeply grateful for.
Something shifted though, after the covid narrative disappeared in favor of Ukraine!, many in the medical freedom movement on substack turning on each other, tearing each other apart. I started to sense a distinct paranoia in his writing, so I stopped reading regularly.
Reading his recent post about theosophy and the Trump assassination attempt, I had a vision of raging mobs rounding up peaceful theosophists, blaming a bunch of normies for being the evil cabal behind every psyop in the West. I couldn’t comment without being a paid sub, so I restacked it with a note. I had a moment, wondering to myself, would I have said this in a comment on his substack? Probably not quite like this. I posted the note anyway.
Sometimes too many smarts can wind you up in circles. Change out illuminati with theosophist and you end up where you started. Some people trained in theosophy had a role in the early days of managerialism, thesophists are behind every evil technocratic action in the world today including the Trump assassination attempt, is something other than logic. Like there is Trump, and then Trump/Putin/Hitler in the liberal mind, there is theosophy, and then there is the evil cabal behind every psyop, in the conspiratorial.
To my surprise, almost immediately Mathew responded:
It spiraled from there.
I certainly did not want to make an enemy of Mathew Crawford. I have challenged him before, when I was a paid sub, about his relentless focus on evil, that it was making him ill. He did not appreciate that either.
I only bring it up to say, you can’t spend all your time thinking about evil in the world, without taking on energy from evil. In the same way, using the tactics of evil, the mob intimidation, threatening people’s employers and family, will turn sour inside you, rot you from the inside out. That is another reason I garden, my garden is my sanctuary where I can take on some of the peace of the garden, as a grounding mechanism for the writing and thinking I do about evil.
Evil is a many headed hydra, legion, long pointed out; cancelling a bunch of normies for ill-considered social media posts will cause other normies not to post pathological statements on social media, which will cause other normies to fret about their statements past and present, which does chip at the pathological incentive structure that is lefty cancel culture. Terrifying the normies though, right elite, is no way to lead. Mob violence is mob violence, left or right, which is like fire, once let loose it is hard to contain, and it will consume everything unchecked. You can’t kill a hydra even by taking off every single head. You have to get at the heart of the hydra. What is the heart of the hydra made of?
Lies.
Everything about cancel culture, woke and trans ideology is based on lies: people with dark skin are more ethical and moral than white people, that a man can be a woman, that sterilization and mutilation of children is therapy, that censorship and dehumanization is the stuff of democracy, that opening the gates of the country to tens of millions of military aged male barbarians is empathetic and moral, Trump, MAGA and Rural people are racist fascists, and on and on.
The moral of this rambling essay is, war changes you. The culture war, the constant wars America fights abroad, the war DC is waging on the country, has changed us all. War changes you in ways you can’t imagine, can’t control and can’t take back. If you are going to take a more active stand on any of these wars, cancelling the cancellers, that is going to change you and maybe not for the better. If the point of this life is spiritual growth, that is made a lot harder with blood on your hands, particularly when that blood is wrought by low tactics as part of a mob.
Remember too, just about everything about war is a lie. If you are going to wage it, best be aware of what it is likely to require of you, the lies the constant wars of America require of all of us whether we are actively waging those wars or not.
If there is to be a dead hydra, I think that would be mostly an end to the endless and everywhere wars America is waging all the time about everything. That will not be accomplished without violence, but that violence is useless if truth is not it’s primary weapon. If the right is to use the tactics of cancel culture in this war for the soul of America, it needs to get clear about what it holds as truth. If not, it is just more war for the sake of war, making more war, in a cycle of wars that will not end until America is destroyed.

Note to readers, there are duplicate posts of this with different analytics, so engagement is twice what it seems. That was Substack's error, though support is AI now and it blamed the issue on me, lol.
I still read Mathew. I get the feeling he is overly paranoid, but like to ponder his take anyway.
I appreciate your centric views, if I can say that.
I also enjoy seeing your garden, and now, the beautiful things you build.
