I gave up a plot in the church yard for vegetables, because I really don't have time, and the produce was often stolen.
I do not have enough sun in my yard, being bookended East and West by tall fir and cedar. I have torn up all the invasive crap from the past 6 decades. A brother has helped plant all native ground cover, shrub, and small trees. It is the best I can do. I enjoy sitting in the window to watch glow in the sweet light.
Stealing garden produce from a church community garden seems emblamtic of the damage to the soul….while your brother offers the behavior of one strengthening the soul.
I forgot to say, though I have before, that I wish you were in my neighborhood. My surroundings could certainly benefit from an artisan such as you. I love all the images of work you have shared, but especially, the deck you built in these photos.
Very kind of you. I was just talking last night with an old friend who recenty returned from 28 years in Humboldt, telling her part of my heart remains in the Reedsport/Winchester Bay area
Looking good. Love the pond. Myself, I amended, with 4 year old homemade compost, 4 beds and planted some 100+ seedling started from scratch. Pretty hard work but so rewarding. Hope they bear food this year. We'll see. Keeping my eyes on the sky.
Thank you. I keep telling people, growing your own food is the best way to be healthy. It’s not just the food produced, it is the act of producing it, good for the body and the spirit. I hope your plants are most productive.
William,
You haven’t been neglecting SubStack, you’ve been living in reality. Keep it up! We’ll be here whenever you have time.
