I was out running trails with my dog when I started thinking about issue polls. All I heard about before the midterm election was Inflation, Crime, Abortion, Immigration. I never heard a word about Covid anything, in any poll or network political discussion. The only politician I heard mention anything about Covid in the last month was Scott Jensen, running for Minnesota Governor. He made something of a fuss about Covid policies long before the election, though he was hesitant to push the talk anywhere near the sort of thing we talk about on substack, during the campaign. He lost badly.
I came back to the house to find a comment on my last post from Unacceptable Bob:
Was Covid an issue in these midterms?
A solid majority had no problem with the policies in Canada. Appears to be the same in the US.
This was supposed to be an economic issues vote.
So I found this poll of likely voters, from New York Times/Sierra College Upshot, in the conservative NY Post, from Oct 17. “Coronavirus” comes in at effectively zero concern. I would have looked at the methods and what question they actually asked about covid, but I don’t care to go behind the NYT paywall. I’m guessing it went something like “Are you concerned about coronavirus?”
Ms Oster didn’t publish her call for pandemic amnesty until Oct 31, so that question didn’t show up in this poll. It didn’t show up in any poll I saw, or in any Republican pol mouth.
Listening to the DeSantis victory speech I thought, had Republicans talked like this, hammering woke, trans and covid authoritarianism, it would have been that red tsunami they otherwise seemed to think they were owed.
Today is the culmination of the 2022 fall elections, but in reality, Americans have been voting for many years now. They've been voting with their feet. And the results of that behavior has been just as stark as our landslide victory today. States and cities governed by leftist politicians have seen crimes skyrocket. They've seen their taxpayers abused. They've seen medical authoritarianism imposed. And they've seen American principles discarded. The woke agenda has caused millions of Americans to leave these jurisdictions for greater pastures.
Now this great exodus of Americans for those folks, Florida, for so many of them has served as the promised land. We have embraced freedom. We have maintained law and order. We have protected the rights of parents. We have respected our taxpayers. And we reject woke ideology. We fight the woke in the legislature, we fight the woke in the schools, we fight the woke in the corporations, we will never ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.
I am not in the habit of posting quotes from politicians unless I am making fun of them, I do so here to make a point that the “elite” on both sides of the aisle, all over government just about everywhere in America but Florida apparently, want their cake and to eat it too, as the saying goes, they want to do whatever phizer and moderna (DoD) tell them to do and their stock to go up, they have nothing to say about Remdesivir or shots for kids, while pretending the issue will just go away as an issue.
But if we let that happen, the next medical totalitarian move will be infinitely worse, just as giving bankers the keys to the kingdom in 2008-2014 helped lead to the god awful authoritarian mess that is covid policy.
Since the pollsters and the pols don’t seem to care what you really think, here is a poll for you. Enjoy.
Yes. I have been apolitical most of my life not a trumper. But I discovered trump hysterics on NPR. So I quit listening to the annoying NPR ~6 years ago. When gov/military mandated the jab lawlessly that sparked me into why mode.. humans have been recruited as research subjects unknowingly But why?.
"Around the half hour mark they talk about how the "Powers That Shouldn't Be" talk down to us and we don't get upset. I think this is in large part due to the corporate media always telling us when to be outraged, and at what. Conversely, if they are not telling us to be outraged at something, we tend to accept it (to our detriment)". ps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24TH4MzuTWQ&t=1986s
