Putting yourself out there for a live performance is a fantastic way to leap frog forward. Nice.

As Orson Welles said "The enemy of art is the absence of limitations." Rick Beato did a great video on how limitations and struggle are the key ingredients for musicians.

Much appreciated. Great video too. That is why I listen to a lot of songs I want to play over and over again, to really get to know the song and voice of the artist.

I see what Beato is talking about too in audiences. Hardly anyone was paying attention to me, which is understandable, but then they don't pay that much more attention to the best musicians in town. My region is not a musical place, but it is more than that, making music does not mean anything to most people, as it has merely turned into one more ubiquitous consumer product pretty much like any other.

Sometimes making art is also for the artist as well. As a kid in high school I learned about listening to others when playing. I had a good teacher who knew how to reduce interference from the ego and the dreams of “playing guitar like a rockstar” and supporting the unit of the band. Because I came from percussion and in marching band played the entire time we marched, I sort of got what he was trying to say. Now that I’m older I wish I was more receptive, could have learned more perhaps. But that synergy was something was good for me to help mature. So making “art” had that by product of discipline.

My guitar teacher, who is one of the best musicians playing regularly in the region, is constantly trying to get me to think and play like a rhythm guitarist, so I can play in a band. How I played that Ray Lamontagn song is not how he wants me to play. But I am getting it, there is how I should play when I am in a supporting role, and then there is going to be how I play when I am alone on stage.

One of the only regrets I really have is not sticking with the saxophone after 8th grade. Foolish.

My contention is that Eddie Van Halen was a better rhythm guitar player / comp than pure soloist. Notes you can fix during a riff, but being off rhythm will always be detected.

Also, as to Beato's point, that video I made has three views. Of course it is not flashy or even quality, per se, but the context of it is art, in the context of the other work and art of this Substack, and literally hardly anyone gives a shit, lol.

But whatever, I'm not blaming people. We are all so saturated with information all the time, a lot of it just turns into noise.

Congrats on the guitar playing! You should be proud of yourself 🏆

I usually agree with what you have to say. I’m not into the Alchemy magical stuff but it is a free country (for now) and since it’s not illegal, more “power” to you. I don’t think it’s something that I should unsubscribe from your Stack over…folks are way too quick to throw the baby out with the bath water these days.

Thank you, and thanks for sticking around. Quite a few subs have not, because of such topics. I mean to keep that a part of what I write about, as I am trying to popularize the ideas, or at least make them more approachable, but otherwise I will focus plenty on the issues of the day too, interpreting the times, talking about a restoration of America.

It’s your Stack and it’s good because you write about what interests you. You are not, and no one should be, one size fits all. Just because you write a piece on something I’m not interested in doesn’t mean I must read it and agree. As long as you don’t advocate for child mutilation or woke culture, I’m in😊

My solutions for woke, pedos, pols, ceos and bankers is the same, it only takes a few stark examples to change behavior across the board, which is why I sometimes reference the Marianas Trench, which is (mostly) a metaphor. Trump has a mandate to go scorched earth on the globalist deep state, which is the source of power of most of the above pathology. He is going to have to make a few examples. Much preferable to randos assassinating ceos, which can turn into too much wildfire, which may seem satisfying at first but is not good for society.

You have come a long way William!

Born to Love You has been on my play list for 5 years. I caught myself singing along with you :-)

I think you would do well with any of these three. Sideways is a little repetitious, but I love it.

Thank you, and for the links. I will listen to those back at the trailer. I used to have a Citizen Cope show poster with Sitting Bull on it
