Nice post, William. I generally try to avoid the term "fascist" because it causes a Pavlovian, knee jerk reaction in whoever hears it in the west, therefore it conceals a topic more than it illuminates. I try to avoid discussing politics at all with shitlibs -- I have some in my family that I see semi-regularly -- no one ever changes anyone else's mind, it just devolves into hurt feelings and name calling. If they bring it up I deflect and change the topic. It's a hard lesson to learn, that facts/reason are simply beyond the comprehension of some of a certain mindset...

Good points. I just figured those of us accustomed to being called fascist for merely questioning dems and liberals might benefit from a nice neat list of modern "fascist" authoritarian methods.

Great read. I'm very sorry that you are having to deal with Desperate Dave- desperate to feel he belongs to something, and therefore drank the Commy koolaid himself. It's TDS. Personally, after I tried to converse with most of my friends in 2016 as I was getting slowly red-pilled, and I voted for Jill Stein (🤷‍♀️), by 2020 I decided I had had enough. I realized when I stopped talking politics, they were going behind my back and badmouthing me. Actually, they were running out of things to talk about themselves, and became desperate to talk to me so they could bond together over new gossip. Thats how they re-enforce each others allegiance to their cult. By 2020 I had enough of them all. I got a new phone number and cut all contact. Recently, I trolled several of them on FB. They're all actively posting on FB in Total Trump Deranged Zeal. It's not just women, either. So my tiny glimpse of hope for them evaporated, and I feel my decision 4 years ago was good. Easy to do in a big city. Not so easy in a small town. God Bless You. I love reading your stuff.

Thank you Jill. Yes, after three political discussions with Dave, I felt very much each time like if the gestapo were to show up to disappear me, Dave if even not the initiator, would cheer about it. So I generally do not engage any liberal with political talk, though I do have one old school liberal friend who I can discuss any political issue with, arguing good naturedly back and forth. It is very refreshing.

You're learning a lesson I was taught many years ago. Since the late 20th Century on, one can judge another's fitness for friendship by their politics.

Democrats use their votes to deconstruct Western civilization, root out wholesome standards for living, and replace it with wholly unhealthy, uncivilized, degenerate standards.

I jettisoned 90% of the guys I grew up with in California (surprisingly the Mexicans are still the most based). We grew up the same, had the same views, but over time leftist virus infected them and destroyed their brains. I knew it would...that's why I left and never looked back.

I've said many times, that today I am surrounded by my people. They are my friends.

Telling me you vote Democrat earns a "good for you. Take care, now. Buh bye" from me.

Your conversations with Dave highlight why I speak very little to many people in my social community beyond gentle pleasantries and stories of chickens. These 'kind' souls will go off frothing at any mention that maybe their dem idols have feet of dung or that Trump might not be such an awful choice. The divide has been there since 2016, but Covid cranked it up to 11.

Even among the covid dissenters that make up my circle, I don't say much. They will either figure it out for themselves or they won't.

I'm sorry about Dave. Hopefully your circle will see you for who you are and not what Dave wants to label you.

Almost every conversation i have with a local liberal, I am often astonished and perplexed at how the vibe shifts into hysterics if any political issue comes up. Rarely do I initiate it because it is like a shadow covers their eyes and rationality, reason and logic depart, and it feels almost like possession.

It seems like you just created a current list of leftist/globalist tactics and called them Fascist. I’m not saying that many of these aren’t fascistic, but it seems to me that any sniff of authoritarianism these days is labeled fascist by both the left and the right. The word has lost its meaning the same way that racist lost it’s meaning.

Expand full comment

I rarely use the word, for precisely that reason. This is merely an exercise in illuminating the fact that those most likely to fling the term at others are usually most guilty of such authoritarianism.

The first 14 point list is pretty much describes the Corporation of the United States a.k.a. the federal government. So strange how they have weaponized hypocrisy, accusing people of what they themselves are doing. The ?who? cries out as they strike you.

Unfortunately we are being played by fascists who use divide and conquer mind games. Both “sides” are fascist and have been for decades in my opinion so now we are being herded to the “right “, whatever that means anymore. I just avoid political discussions now it feels totally pointless to me. It’s terrifying how both sides and so many seemingly logical people eat up such blatant propaganda and manipulation and then regurgitate it and think they know something about the world.

We might all need to very carefully keep all our conversations focused on what we have in common. The ruling class wants us to fight so we don’t look up, so we get so busy name calling and being pissed off by how someone votes that we fail to string up the real war pigs. Hint….all wars are bankers wars, even the social ones. Our need to belong, to have a tribe is being weaponized against us, we can’t take the bait. I don’t believe in right or left…..there is a great old song by a band called XTC called Complicated Game which just about sums up how I have felt about politics for most of my life.

Long ago on Facebook I regularly called Dems fascist and Republicans nazis. The establishment of both parties have done nothing to change my opinion about that, but quite the opposite.

I’m sorry that happened to you. Thanks for your essay. I’m consistently amazed at the depth of your thinking on such a wide array of things. I’m sorry you got pigeonholed like that. I know you don’t go out with that sort of energy at others. Stay strong, you are a blessing to many.

Very kind and thoughtful comment, Simon. I am grateful. As to what happened, that is alchemy, turning garbage into gold, in this case, turning those confrontations into this post.

Your best response name calling is to laugh, and ask if that is the best response he can come up with!

Or paraphrasing Cyrano, '... Is that all? You are too simple! There are a great many things you might have said, if you were a man of letters, or of wit! But wit, not so, you do not have an atom. And of letters you need just three to write you down. ASS..'

I get what you are saying but, respectfully, that’s a bit passive aggressive. Try Verbal Judo. When I “play along” and try to see things from their perspective and ask questions in an effort to understand their POV falls apart and they start to question it themselves. Eventually they reveal that they have no idea what they are talking about.

Good points. I often love pointing out to the fascist-obsessed that many of the current Western governments are quite Fascist once one looks past the racial identity aspect. Public Private Partnership anyone? The vortex of lobbyists and campaign funds? Gaia "worship" and Saving the Planet by using toxic "renewables?"

We have the same guitar teacher, and are part of the local music community. I will know soon enough if he does. Not much I can do but what I always do, treat people with dignity and kindness.

That said, if a liberal sqwaks about fascism, I am quite happy to “decontruct” their bullshit.

Oof that's tough considering how music communities tend to lean. Karma does tend to favor genuine courtesy versus skin suits.

I lean right, but I also have an open mind. I noticed that the old rules of fascism could apply, not necessarily equally, to both left and right. I didn’t realize that.

Eco’s list as he says, any one issue can become the core of a culture turning “fascist”. There probably needs to be a new word though to describe what this regime has become.
