Male and Female Polarity in Western Esotericism

Sex is a mess in America. Gender confusion is ever more apparent. Dating has become problematic in myriad ways. The sexual divide increasingly becomes the political divide, young women becoming more liberal, young men becoming more conservative. Marriage is increasingly rare and more rarely lasting. Americans are not breeding at anything like replacement rates, particularly white Americans, and young people are having less sex than GenX or boomers, on average. Some young men especially have made not having sex a kind of political stance (inceldom), collapsing into nihilism. Sex has been reduced in many cases to a casual commodity, or porn.

Few talk anymore about the joy of courtship, magic of sex or the wonder of love.

Everybody knows the difference between a man and a woman, but misgendering someone by pointing out their actual gender can cost you your livelihood and increasingly your freedom. In Scotland now, offending someone who is a man identifying as a woman could result in you charged with a hate crime. Hate Speech laws on the books and proposed in Scotland, Ireland, Canada, across the EU, increasingly in America, are largely founded on the notion that men can become women, which is like patriarchal totalitarianism inverted. This is the logical consequence of the feminist notion that there is no meaningful difference between the sexes, which is the logical consequence of liberal “enlightenment,” tied to scientific materialism shorn of the metaphysic.

More specifically, from the Western esoteric perspective, the original Science as defined by Eliphas Levi, is the unification of Reason and Faith¹, which is a way of saying the unification of the study of matter and the divine, or the seen and the unseen. Science in the “enlightenment” separated Reason and Faith, matter and the divine, and we are seeing the consequences of that all around us, in the corruption of science. Childhood vaccine policy, covid policy, sterilization and sexual mutilation of children in the name of therapy, the idea that we can change gender just because we feel it, that all a man has to do to play women’s sports or use women’s locker rooms or bathrooms, is to say he is a woman. This is all of a piece.

The West generally has never done “gender” well, insofar as there has never been a conception of a coequal if fundamentally different polarity in the masculine and feminine: coequal in the sense that they are absolutely necessary to each other. Greeks and Romans had a kind of polarity in Apollo/Athena-Minerva, a plethora of male and female gods, but Zeus/Jupiter ruled. Catholicism maintained something of the sacred feminine in Mary, who is holy but still human and not equivalent to Christ the Son of God, who is also God. Protestantism excised even Mary from the sacred, taking the belief that Eve was made from a rib from Adam quite literally, reducing the feminine to property, reducing sexual relations to the utilitarian, deranging it.² The scientific revolution, excising God from the equation, exacerbated that deranged sexuality even as it gave women suffrage and increasing independence; now we have a trans movement “evolving” into the normalization of pederasty, deep sexual perversion, delusion and confusion across the land - even as women have never been more “empowered” or independent.

It should be no surprise then that even with that increasing empowerment and independence, anti-depressant use among independent professional women is very common. For a woman to succeed in modern politics and economics is to be more masculine than they are naturally, which is not necessarily an unhealthy thing if well managed but as a way of life for a lot of women it is not healthy, as we are seeing many professional women enthusiastically embracing State authoritarianism in the name of safety, while accepting ideologies that are essentially self-demonizing (white supremacy/systemic racism) and civilization-collapsing (DEI incompetence induced collapse of complex systems.)

By contrast, in the esoteric tradition of the West, masculine and feminine polarity is embedded in universal systems, it is innate to being, the masculine is the active, feminine the negative, which is to say, masculine energy is the pure energy of being channeled outward into the world, which cannot become form without the feminine to give it form. In more crude terms, a man can ejaculate but that is as nothing without a woman to make a child. Like the folk saying, behind every powerful man is a stronger woman, which is like saying a man is comparatively impotent without a woman to channel his energy and make him stronger, without her to help direct that energy.³ Which is why so many women who act masculine in order to work in modern institutions devolve into petty authoritarians. The longhouse effect often discussed in right-dissident circles is a female dominated arrangement, women without a strong masculine polarity to temper their baser instincts. It is why men-only spaces too often turn pathological, if there is no strong feminine polarity to check their baser instincts. This is why so many of the androgenai are such unhappy, miserable people who demand you be unhappy and miserable too, their internal polarity having gone haywire in denial of the necessity of polarity.

Now this is where a lot of modern westerners particularly women are going to object. Other ways of stating this polarity: masculine active, feminine passive; masculine gives, feminine receives, the male is dynamic, the female static/latent. This is misinterpreted by many moderns, taken literally to mean something like, man is powerful and woman is weak, or women are subservient to men, or should be. Polarity in this context means one is absolutely necessary to the other. There can be no masculine without the feminine, one does not function well or at it’s best, out of balance with the other.

In my last post on creative meditation, I mentioned Kether the Crown, of the Qabalah.⁴ Kether is the first sephiroth, pure energetic being without form, sometimes called the divine spark. Like God it cannot be known without being subsumed in it, to know it is to cease to exist on this terrestrial plane.

The second sephiroth is Chokmah, the supernal Father, the masculine principle, channeling the pure being of Kether into the world. But that pure energy cannot become form, it remains unmanifest until it comes in contact with Binah, the third sephiroth, the supernal Mother, the feminine principle.

That said, the Tree of Life of the Qaballah, is like a map of the human being whether you are male or female, which is to say, each of us is masculine and feminine in universal terms. Being male on earth however, is like the manifestation of Chokmah the supernal Father, while being born female is like the manifestation Binah the supernal Mother. There are of course gradations, some men more resembling Binah, some women more resembling Chokmah. ⁵

Those of us who value mental health would do well, coming to terms with the physiology of the self, genetics and how it manifests, reconciling the masculine and feminine within the self, while finding a partner with whom there is a polarity that exemplifies both of you.

Partners reconciling the feminine and masculine within, making each other stronger in polarity with each other, is sometimes referred to in the esotere as an Alchemical Marriage. That is, two people of opposite polarity exemplifying each other, resonating together, making each other stronger, divine energies flowing more freely through each other, like the way you need positive and negative connections to establish an electrical current.

Too often in my own past, having internalized a feminist message I did not comprehend, I sought to be something like “feminine” polarity to a “masculine” female partner. But the two women I have been partnered with in my adult life, were themselves propagandized by feminism, to sublimate their feminine in favor of masculine, seeking a feminine-like partner, who then like so many masculine men of the past in their relationship to their feminine wife, talked down, disrespected and dominated. I am by nature a high-T masculine male; I was deranging myself to fit into these relationships, while the women were to some degree neglecting their feminine, the relationship founded on some unnaturally inverted polarity that could not be sustained without damage to both of us. Particularly in the second relationship, it devolved into co-dependency in cannabis, tobacco, alcohol, resulting in chronic sleep deprivation. The primary feeling at the end of that relationship was a soul-deep sigh of relief, like I almost immediately expanded.

Needless to say, we don’t teach young people the finer points of masculine/feminine polarity. Instead we have artificially elevated the feminine and declared masculinity to be toxic. That is a recipe for pathology, and the evidence is everywhere around us.

If we want to restore male/female relationships, dating, the family, we would do well to consider feminine/masculine polarity in the metaphysic. I’m not particularly optimistic about that, society-wide. Our betters have a vested interest in maintaining the gender wars - it distracts from elite incompetence and malice, the general looting of the nation, and the trend toward technocratic global lock-down. A gender confused people are more easily controlled, herded into mass holding pens for processing.

Not much we can do about that, but to better thyself, to assist the other you are in polarity with. Enough of us do that and we might assist society in resisting technocrats herding us where they will. To that end, I have not found anywhere a more concise description of what I have been discussing here. It is too much to quote directly, so I am merely posting a picture of two pages.⁶

As a culture we have forgotten the magic of sex and the polarity of attraction between men and women. Or rather it has become confused and debased, a casualty of rampant materialism, scientism and the desacralization of being human. Many people are questioning the freedom promised by feminism, an autonomy that often resulted in a kind of emptiness, lonliness, when that autonomy has depended so much on the demonization of the masculine. Technology too, our constant attention to screens, the mass availability of porn, the sexualization of so much that is media, driving out any deeper sense of meaning, and quashing so much of real feeling.

Even if the mass of society is confused and debased, that doesn’t mean you can’t re-sacralize, facilitate magic in your own life and build better relations and have better and more meaningful sex. I hope to expand on this topic in future posts.

Protestantism did not invent the idea of women and girls as property, but that combined with the focus on work as a means to salvation and a severity of moral judgment about sex, deranged sexual relations and exacerbated the worst impulses. Eventually that would break out into the “free love” of the 60’s which resulted in increasing decadence, the consequences of the concept of “free casual sex” in the broken and increasingly ill and empty sexual mores of the current period.

For most people, finding a partner who you are in polarity with is a much more likely route, though few are versed in polarity and successful relationships, that make both people better and stronger. And there are emotional and spiritual rewards of spouse and kids not available to the solitary practitioner.

This has come to mean in the 2020’s something like, the ideal is "gender bending however you want, some of us are born in the wrong body, love is love in any context.” Nothing at all is stopping you from gender bending yourself all you want. However, a lot of adult gender benders have decided everybody’s kids should be gender bent too, which is authoritarian sexualized perversion plain and simple. The last bit about being “born in the wrong body” is a pathological fiction facilitated by a predatory Health Care system for expanding streams of guaranteed profits. And a lot of this gender bending thing in relation to kids is quite frankly a NAMBLA pederast lobby that would like to normalize child sexual predation.
